My youngest daughter has been taking Wilton cake decorating classes this summer before she goes off to summer camp. So, needless to say, she has been practicing and practicing. It's so cute. She makes a new cake like every other day, and when she's not making cakes, she practicing her roses, or watching Ace of Cakes.
It's so funny. Before this newest obsession, whenever she would watch tv it was Zoey 101, or one of those young teen shows. Now, she's always watching Food Network. She has loved to cook since she was a little girl, and took her first cooking classes at 8 or 9 years old. (a daycamp type thing)
The first two cakes she made after her first class. Since then she has gotten the stiffer consistency for the frosting down pat, and her roses (and balloons are great!) The sleepover cupcakes she made after I bought her this book at the beginning of her summer break. (I snapped the photo before she put their mouths on)
This amazing cake she made me after only her 2nd class! This was my birthday cake. What is amazing here is the clown figure! She is made from chocolates! You know those candy melts you use when making candy? Trin won an art award earlier this year with a painting of this clown and so for my birthday, she decided to make it from chocolate!
I am not even sure exactly how she did this, other than I know she did the candy decoration on wax paper and then transfered it to the cake. I loved it!! So cute, and creative! We have been collecting vintage cake decorations and candy molds together since she was younger and I hoped she would treasure them someday, but I never had any idea they might lead to something more!
She will be 15 later this fall, and I think she will be the only 15 year old I know asking for one of these for her birthday! She has already been prepping me, telling me how our regular old hand mixer "just won't stand up to the thicker consistency of frosting needed for cake decorating". :0)
It's so fun to watch her be so excited and eager to learn new things. I adore seeing my girls' enthusiasm for new loves in their life. Makes a Momma proud.
xoxo, Cerri

How sweet! I would love to take cake decorating! Keep her encouraged!

The KitchenAid Stand Mixer is made in Greenville, Ohio. We have a kitchenaid experience store and they ship for free to anywhere in the USA. They have a crazy amount of colors too. During Annie Oakley days{the last full weekend of July} they have crazy sales and freebies with purchase. People are wrapped around the block for this. They also have refurbished products in the basement. They have a website as well.
Ok, did I do a good enough job promoting your daughters wish list?! Many people love finding out about this store. My favorite attachment is the ice cream maker.

I'm currently taking Wilton classes... how awesome your daughter is doing! (I don't blame her about the mixer... I have one and I don't know how I would do the icing w/o it... smart girl!) You should be SO proud!

Btw... if you decide to get your daughter a mixer... make sure you check out amazon.com
My husband and I got ours off there in November and only paid $199 (shipping was free w/ super saver shipping...) By Christmas they were up to about $299! So we got ours just in time... but regardless, they seem to be cheaper on amazon (also, keep in mind that some colors are cheaper than others... we got the metallic chrome and it seemed to be cheaper than a lot of the other colors - I'm not sure why - it's beautiful!)

Hey Cerri, those cakes are amazing! Your daughter is quite talented. Too bad you don't live near me. My 15yo daughter loves cooking too. I finally broke down and got a food processor so she can perfect her pie crusts. She even experimented with a new pie last week that turned out quite good. (She loved the movie Waitress). She has also been drooling over that same mixer, so I certainly can relate!!

How fun for your daughter! I took that Wilton class two years ago. Such a good class. After making several friends bday cakes and a couple of shower cakes....I closed that chapter of my life. I definetly don't have the patience for it...OR ALL the powdered sugar blowing in the wind!!!!! Kuddos to your daughter. Such a great thing to be indulged in at 15!!!!!

Also, your daughter is talented... we should all encourage her. She's the first fifteen year old I've heard of in a long time that wanted something useful that would last her for many years. I say bravo and carry on, oh sweet and talented daughter!!! You, too, Mom! Take care. pat at birdnestontheground

I'm not even into baking or frosting and I love Ace of Cakes!
The amazing ideas they come up with are just shocking! I saw one show where they made a gumball machine cake with real gumballs inside a glass dome!
It was so cool! I can appreciate your daughters confections because I cannot back a decent cake to save my life.
I will be making and photographing some cupcakes soon-I saw some marachino cherries the other day and I was inspired!

You sound so proud and you should be; she is so talented! I remember taking a cake decorating class when I was 18 years old and loved it. Now, I can't wait for my 4 and 2 year old daughters to get a bit older and start them on cooking classes. I know I will be delighted the day they make me a birthday cake on their own.
