Inspiration from Ruche

Hello! I am sure you're familiar with Ruche, as they have the loveliest of things. But I have gone back to their newest lookbook several times today as it is just so inspiring. I know the ads are selling clothes, jewelry, and accessories, but I'm so inspired by the other things in the photos. The textures, the soft colors, the kites! Making fabric and paper kites was just added to my to do list. :)

The texture on this wall is stunning.

Gah! Just look at all of these amazing paper flowers, and the scale of them!

Today for the first time in a while I was really inspired by soft color! For so long now, I've been drawn almost completely by white and neutral shades...but definitely loving the soft colors here.

Peeks of the new studio

Hello! I hope you're all having a lovely week! As you know, I've been slowly moving my studio and shop to two different rooms in the house. It's quite a process as I'm sure you can imagine, but I think the rewards are going to be soooo worth it. For one, the "shop" room will strictly be inventory, shipping, and shop supplies. That is going to make shipping, ordering, and keeping track of business so much for efficient! (and it's cute too, I'll show you photos of that soon) And now, my studio will be more centrally located in my home, and is just a studio. It was so hard to keep the studio clean when it was combined with the constant influx of inventory, and I'm one of those people that doesn't feel that creative unless my space is pretty tidy and organized. So enough blabbering and on to the peeks.  The photo above is of a fantastic old door my husband bought for me. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to put anything at all on it, but as you can see I decided to utilize it a little. 

I am pretty sure I mentioned to you that I covered all of my walls with fabric, right? Well I have also lined any shelves with layers of old lace and sometimes millinery flowers. 

I'm still using old boxes, or boxes covered in old papers to organize a lot of my bits of paper and things. 

I love having my rubber stamps on display. The tin in the back is a wonderful art deco candy tin I found on a recent trip to the DC area with my husband, here you get a glimpse of the fabric walls with the lace and ribbon striping. 

A wonderful gift from my husband from Christmas. Can you see her dainty little shoes peeking out from her dress? 

Maybe this post should really have been about how I display my rubber stamps? :)

Old hat boxes, jewelry boxes, and purses, must have staples in any vintage studio, right? 

Oh ick! Please ignore the dead bug in this photo. Those stupid bugs have invaded east TN this past year and they turn up everywhere. I can't believe I didn't notice when I was taking the photo...

This wall is not completely finished, I still need to add smaller frames to the inside of the large frame in the upper corner as well as some other things, but you get the idea of where it is going, right? The new studio is filled with natural light all day, and I adore that. It is also a smaller room, and I have to pare down and just keep the things I really love, but so far it is making me quite happy. 

I'll share more when I get more finished, but I hope you enjoyed the little peeks into my new world today.

I hope you have a lovely weekend! We are off to visit Kenz in Nashville. I've been missing her terribly, and between work and school she hasn't been able to come home since Christmas. And although she has a new car, she is still a little nervous to drive over the mountain since her accident. We're going to stay all week, and I'm seriously looking forward to some relaxing, some crafting, and some much needed girl time.

She Art and More New Stamps

Hello everyone! I hope you had a lovely Valentine's day! I am super excited to share with you that we have the new She Art stamps in stock and listed on the website. I'm sure you're already familiar with Christy Tomlinson's "She Art" workshops, but just in case you aren't, you can check them out here.  I love it all, so I was super excited to find out that she launched a line of stamps and other embellishments. (more about the embellishments when they come in next month) 

The stamps are 6" long, and 2.5" wide, so they're perfect for creating canvases, art journals, and more! I love that the stamps take away the worry for those of us that feel we can't draw anything. :)

There is even a fantastic stamp set that has all of the wonderful doodle type borders that she does. Love it!

Here are a couple canvases I found done in this fabulous "She Art" style. The first two are by the incredibly talented Cristina of Sweet Pea Ink. I love the soft colors she uses.

Happy Valentines Day

Hello! I hope you're having a lovely Valentines day! 

I wanted to share with you the other project I made with my Mom the other day. We made these little lace and millinery covered heart boxes. Originally, I planned to create a tutorial to show you how we made these, but then the boxes sold out so quickly, and I didn't want to show you how to make something that I didn't have a source for. 

But I will tell you that they're simply painted, covered with layers of antique lace remnants, and a little millinery glued on top of that. Pretty simple, but lovely, don't you think? I saved a few out for myself to create more like this, and had planned to sell those in the shop, but I wasn't able to complete any except for the one. I don't suppose people are buying heart boxes after Valentines day, right? :)

Hopefully after we get the studio/shop move completed I will have more time for creating again as I have lots of ideas stirring around. 

I hope your day is filled with love and you're spending it with your sweethearts.

A sweet little Valentine box

Hello! Just dropping in today with a very sweet little project. Although I talked about it on facebook, I'm not sure if I have mentioned on my blog that my Mom was in a pretty serious car accident earlier this month. Shortly after her accident I went up and visited with her to help out, and to cheer her up a little. She has been pretty much stuck either on the couch or in bed, and if you know my Mom, that's not exactly the easiest thing in the world for her. Anyway, she had purchased these sweet little kits from Julie for both of us, and so we did a little crafting and movie watching during that time. 

The little kits from Julie were just darling as they were so I pretty much stuck to how she had designed them. They took us about 15-20 minutes to put together, and I always love a project that is sweet and simple, don't you? 

I just love this little box. :)

Lots of busyness happening around here, and I need to get back to working on the studio move. I'll post a peek soon. I love how it's coming along. (even though I am having to do lots of purging)  Keep an eye out on that section of the shop if you are interested in picking up any vintage treasures for yourself, I'll be adding more lovelies there. In fact, I'm really thinking of starting like a "flea market friday"" type thing...as I DEFINITELY have to pare down.

Some lovely old things and image share

Hello! Sorry to go missing for a couple of days, but I was not feeling well. I'm back with some image shares that would make lovely additions to your Valentines. Isn't she lovely? I think she would be gorgeous on a tag or card. I have lots of these wonderful fashion print originals in my shop, (printed in 1894! )and I love them for projects!

I was also realizing the other day while working on my new studio that I have not shared any of my vintage finds in quite some time. When I started my blog I used to do that all of the time, and miss it. So here are a few of my recent favorites. 

These stunning vintage hankie cases were actually a gift from my Mom. I LOVE them. I have collected these forever really, as I think they would make stunning book or journal covers. One of these days, I will get to making some into that...(you can see some of my other favorites in this flickr set. )

I just love the old satin, and the faded lace over the satin. Sigh..Really, why don't we make things this beautiful anymore? Such a simple thing to have your hankies in a case, but they were just made so beautifully.

Another one of my recent favorites was also a gift from my Mom! I also collect vintage petite handbags, and I'm not sure if I have ever shared that collection with you? Hmm...I'm thinking of hanging them on the wall in my bedroom, so I will share them soon. This one, is probably one of my favorites in the whole collection though. 

I mean just look at all of those delicate beads and the embroidery. B-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l! 

Then there is this little thing. I found this recently on a quick trip to the DC area with my husband. (I love it when I get to tag along on his business meetings. :) I believe this is a very old pin keep. It is a very detailed velvet on one side with a little padding in between, and on the other side is an embossed metal. You can kind of see the chain in the photo, so it actually hangs. I have never seen anything quite like this, have you? 

The lovely shopkeepers had a couple of old hat pins stuck in it, and I just fell in love with it. 

Lastly, this was a sweet gift from my husband. Sometime around Christmas while he was out Christmas shopping he found a ziploc bag full of  these wonderfully faded chrocheted bits. He brought it home and asked me if I liked it. He thought that I might, but just in case I didn't, he didn't want to include them with my Christmas presents. Uh...

Why yes(!), I do love them. And honestly, just how sweet that was of him was a gift in itself.

Roses

Hello! As you know, roses are the traditional flower given on Valentines day, and of course more roses are sold in the month of February than any other time of the year. So in continuing with this month's theme, I thought I would share some fabulous old rose images with you today. 

Apparently, the tradition of giving flowers is an old fashioned custom originating to the 18th century by Charles II of Sweden. Giving bouquets of flowers was a way to pass along non verbal communication. Each flower had a meaning attached to it, and therefore people could carry on conversations using only flowers. 

I personally love roses of all different shades, but there is also meaning behind the color of the rose. 

Red roses of course symbolize love and romance. 

Pink roses symbolize grace and elegance and are often given as a sign of admiration. 

Yellow roses are thought to evoke a feeling of warmth and happiness and are often shared as a symbol of true friendship. 

White roses represent innocence and purity and are often associated with weddings and new beginnings. 

Orange roses are thought to be the embodiment of desire and enthusiasm, and often given as an expression of a fervent romance!  (I had no idea about this one, did you? )

Lavender roses are a sign of enchantment and are meant to symbolize love at first sight. 

When I was in high school, my very favorite rose was the lavender rose. I wasn't really aware of it's meaning, but my best friend was a great guy, and he gave me lavender roses for every occasion from my 17th birthday, to prom, and I remember he bought me two dozen when I graduated. I think I even have some of those in an old scrapbook somewhere. So sweet. 

Today though, my husband often brings me this wonderful shade of pink roses that look like they were antiqued. They're gorgeous. I'll have to take a photo next time to share with you.
