I can't believe it's been two weeks since I have blogged! Wow, we have a lot to catch up on! But first, let me show you what has been consuming most of my time the past couple of weeks. Getting my daughter ready for college. Wow, what an undertaking that has been. She is lucky to have apartment style dorms, but that meant we had to outfit an apartment, and not just a room. We hit a lot of thrift stores and places like Home Goods, Marshalls, and Target.
Her style and color choices are very different from mine, but she does love old things, so it's fun to share that with her. Avocado green is one of her favorite colors. Seriously. :) The chair in the above photo she thrifted for the fantastic price of $30. She LOVES this chair, and it's in perfect condition. I love what we did with this wall in her room. For weeks she collected old album covers never paying more than a $1.25 for one. So for less than $25 she has a fantastic wall full of vintage art. I think she may also find them inspiring as a graphic design major.
The week before she left we took a day off and went to the 127 sale. She found quite a few things that day (and so did I, but more on that later), but her favorite find was this old tool chest. She has repurposed it to hold art supplies and basic desk supplies for her drawing table.
Each of those top "drawers" are actually cigar boxes! How great is that?
Love that original label. Good junk. Just what she loves.
She had an idea to put a bookcase w/out a back at the end of her bed. This made it so that she's not sitting on her bed just looking at clothes, and it also turned that area into a little dressing room of sorts.
She brought along several of her own quirky little collections to remind her of home.
She definitely has eclectic tastes. :)
This is an overview shot of their kitchen. Can you believe all of this cabinet space for a dorm?!
(the lime green wall was already painted that color...)
Some of her dishes, again, with her eclectic tastes. :)
A mix of vintage and new items. The mouse and cheese are salt and pepper shakers. (from Pier One, too cute) The pear shaped sugar bowl is Anthropologie.
The view from her bedroom window. I love it that the school is on a lake. I expect there will be many days sat drawing by the water over the next 4 years!
She loves it so far. She is fast becoming good friends with one of her room mates, (there are 4 girls in one apartment), her schedule is heavy but doable she says, the first day of classes is tomorrow, and she was able to save enough money this summer that she won't have to work this school year! She's happy and adjusting to life on her own very well I think. I'm excited to see what this chapter of her life will bring.
Part of my heart stayed behind with her in Nashville, but hopefully she'll visit us before too long, and it's not really that far away from Christmas break, is it?
I'll be catching up more in the next couple of days, I have much to share! The shop will be closing sometime today or tomorrow until the new website is ready, which is going to be sooo cute! I can't wait to show you! I have tons of new (and 'new' old) stuff to be adding, including a brand new category. I have cute swap stuff to show you, and lots of vintage finds to show you, so check back with me soon!
