Pretty, old things in the studio

Hello! I hope your Thanksgiving and long weekend were lovely! We had a great time with family, and my husband and I did lots of shopping during the sales. It's a tradition with us. We pick up the paper on Thanksgiving on the way to my Mom's and we plan our day. We always stop for lunch to regroup, and then go at it again. It's fun, really. The crazy crowds, and the excitement in the air. I love it!

Anyway, the only room decorated in my house so far is the studio. Here is a rather dark shot of the studio all decked out for Christmas. The chandelier is a new find. We painted it white and added the pink mercury glass ornaments from it. (Home Goods for $4 each) The beautiful, pale pink ruffled curtains are also new, but they're not old. (Target, Simply Shabby Chic line) I do love them!

The vintage hanging basket is also a new, old find. I now have two of them, and love them both. The sweet teddy bear was a gift from my husband the first year we were married. I treasure her.

A mixture of new and old things in this little vignette. The little cottage was one of my Joli Paquet kits last year.. (or the year before?) The vintage pink ornaments and tinsel are the only lovely things I have ever found at a thrift store in my area.

The turning tower thing to the right is new to the studio too. It was a recent find from a local scrapbook store that closed. It has been a life saver, it hols so much inventory!  My husband painted it white for me and I'm really loving it.

And for a little shop talk, the free shipping sale is continued through today. Joli Paquet is in full swing with tutorials, and kit sales will be this week on the 2nd. (I'll preview mine soon)

I made up a few of these glittered reindeer, embellished with vintage velvet millinery and silk ribbons and listed them in the shop.

Happenings...

Hello! I know you're waiting to see what I found at the flea market, right? Well I did find some lovely things and I will share them soon, but on the way home from our little weekend getaway, my Jeep broke down. Ugh. Not good. At all. So, I've been a little preoccupied this week with that, but as soon as I get everything unloaded and photos taken I will be sure to share.

There are exciting things happening though! Some I can tell you about now, and some I will let you know about pretty soon. :) First up, Parents magazine started a wonderful feature on their websiste last year called the "One hundred days of holidays". Basically, you can sign up to receive a daily email of wonderful holiday themed projects to do with and for your children. (You can also view this slideshow on the website if you prefer.) Everything from recipes to costumes will be covered and I was over the moon excited to be asked to be a part of the project this year! I'll be sure to let you know when my day is up, but you can go here, right now and sign up for yourself. They're expecting more than 300,000 readers, so that is pretty exciting news for me!

Next up. Halloween. Can you believe it is almost that time of year?  My play packs had to take a little hiatus this summer while I fussed and worried over every single detail of getting my daughter ready to live on her own at college, but they're back now. (or will be in a day or so) I have a super cute Halloween themed play pack almost ready for you as well as some other cute things.

The Creative Connection and a few other things I've been up to

 

Hello! I hope you had a wonderful 4th!

I am happy and honored to be a guest on The Creative Connection today!  I would be thrilled to have you read my post and leave a comment! I personally do not find it that easy to write about ME. It's easy for me to write blog posts about my creative endeavors or vintage finds and other things I write about on my blog, but I find it much more difficult to actually write about me. Do you feel that way? Anyway, I hope you will visit the wonderful Creative Connection and read my little blog post today! (by the way, the pink jacket and sunglasses were part of a pink ladies costume...not my normal everyday clothing choices. LOL)

I've been in a bit of a creative funk for the past month or so, and I hate it when that happens. So the other day in an effort to snap out of it, I grabbed a stack of sheet music, some tags, vintage envelopes, some fabric scraps, and my new sewing machine to see if I could come up with anything. I think it worked.

I stitched up several paper pockets, and a couple of tag pockets to hold more tags. I played with the various stitches my new sewing machine does...not sure if you can see the all in these photos as I was using thread that was a little light.

I also stitched up some little envelope booklets using some of my favorite vintage envelopes. Even though I ended up making my booklets in a different way, I was inspired by the ones that Julie made!

My envelopes had the sweetest scalloped flap, and I wanted those to be the pockets so I put my envelope upside down and cut the flap down the middle making two sides. I then simply glued the edge of the flap to the back and created these little sliding pockets. I grabbed some paper doilies and some unused vintage sheet music and made pages for my book simply by stitching down the middle. Now my booklets have various types of pages and also cute little pockets to hold tags or images, or even lists. Super cute, and super easy to make.

 I added some more images and tags to my paper pockets and popped some of them into a recent pink studio sampler order and the rest I set aside for a very sweet friend I'm working on a swap with. That feels much better and now I have some more ideas. Maybe that is the trick when your muse seems to be missing? Just sit down and DO SOMETHING!

I'm Miss August!

 

You might recognize this photo from Somerset Life, it's a photo of some of my  fabulous millinery cat tails! I took this photo sometime last year and was thrilled when Jenny Doh asked for it to be in their magazine. Well it turns out that they liked it so much they wanted to use it in their wonderful art calendars, and again, I was beyond thrilled!

This is the cover of the calendar my photo is in, and here it is in the layout.

I received some copies of the calendars a while back and I have to tell you, they are STUNNING. (and I'm not just saying that cause my photo is in it)  :) Each and every month features a beautifully inspiring photo from previous Somerset Life issues!

I believe they are on sale now, and believe me, you'll want one for yourself and everyone on your Christmas list!

I always wanted to be a Calendar Girl! LOL!

Can you believe I am STILL sick? 3 weeks now. This cough just won't let go and I'm still exhausted, but I'm doing all I can to get caught up with orders, and I have much to do, and much to show you. I just need some energy. Hopefully soon....
