Show & Tell, One of my favorite collections

 

Sorry I was running a bit late today! You know how it is, I'm sure. :0) But welcome to Show & Tell! Cindy's topic this week was to show our favorite collection. I'll admit that was a hard one for me, so I'm cheating  little. One of my very favorite things to collect is old trims. I'm always looking for them and I have a few old suitcases full of them. (as well as boxes tucked here and there) So you'll understand my excitement as I tell you about one of my most recent finds. I took my girls to Nashville last weekend during thier fall break so that we could do some shopping and have some fun. One of the things we did was spend the day at the flea market. (which, by the way, October is the best time of year for the flea market, it was amazing) We had a very fun day and I found some really fabulous treasures! In the very last booth I stopped in, there was a lady selling fabric and just little box lots of "junk". I was about to walk on out as I was tired and almost out of my cash, but then a little piece of old, tattered lace caught my eye. There was a Walmart bag full of these old lace pieces and I started peeking through and asking, how much is this, and this, and this?? (trying to hide my growing excitement) The shot above shows you the whole lot in the bag. I finally asked the lady if she would just sell me the whole bag and she said, sure $15. I was really low on cash at this point (told you it was an amazing day) and between my daughter and I we had $13 left. She took that.

 

I'm sooo happy she did. I didn't even look all the way through the bag until several days later, and when I did, it took me almost an hour to get through all of the pieces!! I'm thinking it was probably the find of the year! This lace was old! Really old. And so unusual and beautiful! There are several pieces that are intact and appear to be taken from some very old clothing. While I love to collect this stuff, I will admit I do not know that much about it, so if you see something here that you know more about, will you please let me know? Or if you know of a good reference for antique lace, let me know that too, will you?  The above photo still has buttons intact, and those ruffles! Oh my!!

This, I believe is a collar. The ribbon is silk and this whole piece is intact. 

   

The crocheted piece here is a collar too, I believe. There are many, many pieces of lace similiar to the one in this photo. Isn't it stunning?

 

 

There are several pieces like these two that appear to be the tops of slips maybe? Some sort of clothing. The one on top takes my breath away!!

 

This is just a tiny sampling of the many, many types of laces found in that one bag! There really are tons of them! Each one beautiful and so intricate!

 

I'm not sure what this is, but it's just stunning, yes?

 

And this piece. It's fully intact and in wonderful condition. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but it appears to be a little bag of some kind?? Anyone out there that can share more information about this would be so appreciated!

This is really just a few high lites of what was in that $13 bag. I'm still in awe at how beautiful they are and how wonderful! I'm not even sure what all I will do with them yet. I know a few pieces are going to some friends. (one who just had a birthday, and one I'm doing a personal swap with) Nicole, my mannequin, will wear a couple of them. Some of the lace will go into Pink Studio Samplers as I love to fill those little boxes with my favorite things. I'm sure my Momma will want some, she hasn't even seen them yet. The rest.....who knows!

Show us your precious art bits!

 

Welcome to a Show & Tell that is very near and dear to most of our hearts, our favorite vintage art bits! I have beloved art bits all over my studio. I couldn't begin to show you all  of them so I decided just to take some little shots all over my studio that contained happy little art bits. As I was taking photos I noticed that I seem to have little dolls stashed everywhere! I guess they just make me happy having them peek out at me! This milk glass vase sits on my work table full of flowers so that I can grab them for any various project I am working on.

Also sitting on my work table is this little dish full of vintage jewels. Being one of my favorite thing to collect I have old jewelry boxes full of them, but these are sitting on the table for current projects.

This is the top of my vintage doll cabinet that I have showed you before. The tins are all filled with various vintage art bits. (2 of them containing vintage doll bits) The little naked doll makes me smile everytime. LOL

I love those old satin boxes that were originally used for gloves, hankies or even jewelry, and I have lots of them, filled with vintage art bits! Even though I have several old suitcases full of vintage trims and lace I keep a couple of these little satin boxes stocked full of my favorite trims.

Show & Tell for Sunday October 19th

 

Lookie there, we're above the fold. LOL I found a link to create your own newspaper image last night, thought I saved it and now can't find it, sorry. If I find it or anyone knows where it's at I'll be sure and post.

Now, about this weeks theme.

 

Show us your vintage art bits. You know we all have them. We all collect them, hoard them, and put them in every nook and cranny of our studios or creative spaces. You know those little things that make your heart go pitter patter when you see them, you know you have to have them to add to some project, some day. I want to see them! Show us your very favorite bits. It does't matter what kind they are, are what kind of art work you do, show us your bits. Those picutured here are things I have been collecting for soooo long now. My Mom and I used to make jewelry years ago, it was one of the  first crafts we ever delved into together. (and there have been quite a few) I keep thinking I'm going to make jewelry again, but I seem to be just collecting instead. Love these bits.

 

Doll bits. You know how I love those. I have more. Way more. I'll show you on Sunday. :0) I also have paper bits, lace bits, on and on. I bet you do too, right?

Show & Tell --oops!

 

I owe all of you an apology! I did my post for Show & Tell late Friday night as we were going to the lake for the weekend. I know I had it scheduled, and of course thought I hit "save", but apparently, I did not. I feel really bad about that! Hope you will all forgive me for that! Also hope you had a great time visiting each other and found lots of apron love! I don't collect vintage aprons, and am NOT good at photographing them either for some reason, but I do have a couple so I'll show the m to you now.

 

I only have a couple of them and both of them my Momma bought for me thinking I would love them, and I do. This one usually is tied around Nicole's waist, (my mannequine) but she's needing a makeover and feeling a little shy right now, so you get this goofy photo. LOL

 

This one Mom bought because it is made of dotted swiss and lace, and we all know about my love of dotted swiss! It has pockets all the way across it. Super sweet.

 

 

This is a vintage apron I don't have anymore as I sold it in the shop, but I really kind of wish I hadn't. You know how that goes, right? I think I found it for a steal and it is probably one of the sweetest aprons I've ever seen. It's funny. I can't really imagine wearing this while doing ANY sort of chore. Can you? I mean it's so foofy it's almost like lingerie! Now, surely those sweet ladies didn't put an apron over their nighties did they? LOL

That's the end of my vintage aprons. I do have one other, that my girls used when they were little to cook and now my niece wears it when she comes over and bakes things, but it's pretty stained so I'll spare you that. :)

Show Us Your Vintage Figurines!

 

So excited to be back to doing Show & Tell with you all! I have missed visiting all of you!

I don't actually have that many figurines, just a handful that I really love. The first one is my most treasured. She's not vintage, but was painted for me by my daughter in 2004. (she was only 9 then) She found this girl at a ceramic shop and painted her for me and added glitter to her skirt and bow. I just adore her, and would grab her on the way out the door in a fire if I had to. It's not just because my sweet Trin made her for me, but the thought she put into it and the great pains she took that year to make sure I did not see her before Christams, and the way she wrapped it herself. It was just all so dear.

I collect these little girls for her. (and they are usually displayed in her room) These are all vintage and not the reproductions. We don't have them all, but I do try to find them for her birthdays.  It's hard to find the orginal ones sometimes. Right now, I'm looking for #15, as her birthday is just around the corner!

 

 

They're very sweet and hopefully she will have a little girl to pass them to one day!

 

Next to the figurine my daughter made me, this is my favorite. I just love her sweet expression. She is chalkware and I adore vintage chalkware. She's not perfect (they rarely are) but she is just so lovely!

 Most chalkware figurines were created during the Depression and were a less expensive way to have collectibles.

 

This little darling is also chalkware and she has remnants of silk at the bottom of her dress. Not sure how much of that would have been there originally. She's tattered but I just love her.

One more sweet chalkware girl. She's actually in very good condition. Very little chipping on her.

 

One last little figuringe. She's a vintage Josef like the birthday girls above. I think this one is actually a birthstone girl.

Show & Tell Sunday

 

Yeah! Cindy and I are excited you are all ready to play Show & Tell again! We are going to do a couple of things different now.

First, we will have Show & Tell  EVERY OTHER Sunday. It's just easier to keep up with this way.

Second, topics will be posted on Mondays of the participating weeks. You will then have until Thursday evening to sign up for by posting on the blog post. We will only take sign ups until Thursday night. HOWEVER, if you don't make the sign up in time, that's OK! You can add your name to the topic on the flickr group, or just leave it in the comments on Sunday. Everyone will find you still! You are always welcome to add your photos to the flickr group as well. Make sense? Please don't hesitate to send me an email or leave a comment if you have a question. The reason we are creating a deadline is so that we have a couple of days in which to prepare the posts, and then we are not completely tied to the computer on Sunday.

A couple of things to mention....anyone is welcome to play along at any given time. You can play one week and not play again for 4 weeks, and then pick right back up. This is all just for fun, a great way to talk about the things we love, and to get to know each other a little better. SO...because this is just for fun, I do ask that you don't use the posts for promotional purposes if possible. What I mean by that is if the topic is vintage trims, please don't just show us all of the vintage trims you have ready for purchase in your shop. (we'll find them anyway)

Show & Tell, Favorite Flea Find

Hey girls! I hope you are all having a wonderful Father's day! When I was trying to figure out what my favorite flea find was, I knew it would have to be something out here on my screened in porch. And well, truth be told, most of the things out here are my favorite finds. The pink metal glider you see, I love that! I found it at an antique festival, and the end of the day. The dealer didn't want to bother with it, so he sold it to me for like $30! I don't remember what color it was before, but we painted it pink.

The wicker couch that you can't see as well (these are old photos) is probably the find of the decade! I found it again at the end of the day, but this time a yard sale. It is very old, when wicker was reinforced with wood, and the cushions are the kind that have sturdy metal springs in them. It had been in that family forever, handed from one relative to the next, originating with a great Grandma they said. They simply did not want it, so they sold it to me for $10!!! I could barely even talk, I was so excited about this deal! We no more than had it loaded and headed down the road before I was calling my Mom and telling her! (she was jealous. LOL) I've seen couches similiar, but not as fabulous in anitque shops for an easy $150!

The old coffee table above was also a great find, it was only $10 too! I love this old garden statue of an angel here. I found her at a flea market, and lady sold her to me for $5 because she wasn't perfect. LOL Some of her paint was chipping off. She even told me, "she's not much to look at with that paint coming off!". Oh, I think I'll live with that chipping paint just fine! :0)

The last couple of photos are just a few more shots of my porch. All great finds, really. I still think the wicker couch is the one that I was most excited about! One of these days I'll show you the rest of my porch, the dining side. But right now, it has cans of paint and lots of projects in the works that I'm not quite ready to show you yet. :0)

Show & Tell

First of all, thank you sooo much for the birthday wishes and emails! I did have a wonderful birthday and in large part it was thanks to all of you! It was so much fun to wake up to so many sweet emails and posts! You all know how to make a girl feel loved, that's for sure!

Sorry I'm late getting this out to you this week girls, but truth is, with getting ready for my shop opening, I simply don't have time for Show & Tell hositng this week.  However, we do have good news! My friend Heidi agreed to be your hostess this week. She'll be posting the topic on her blog and hosting you all this Sunday! Yeah! Thank so much Heidi! If I have time, I try to participate as well, just don't have time to host.

Show & Tell, Trash to Treasure

Sorry ladies, my post will not be up until later today, but you can read about my most recent trash to treasure on this post. In the meantime, please have fun visiting all the other blogs here.

Edited: Sorry I never did get a post up today girls. Fact of the matter is, I was kidnapped. My girls announced to me that I have been doing nothing but working and they still didn't have summer clothes. Uh, oops. Bad Mommy! So we spent the day shopping for clothes and having dinner out. I was also forced to sit in the living room without my computer in my lap and watch Juno. Which, by the way, is a very charming movie. We all loved it. Even Mr. Pink Studio. (who claims to never love "chick flicks") So, a good family day. It was needed, but unfortunately, I never did have a chance to get my post ready. I hope you will forgive me (again!).

Containers, Part Two

I love June! It's the cooler of the summer months here, and that usually means lots of time at the lake. It also means my birthday. I'll be 37 in a little over a week. Wow, 37! Wasn't I just turning 17 a couple of years ago? Anyway, I love birthdays, and we usually go all out here. When the girls were younger we always threw the best parties! I just love to celebrate! So stay tuned, I'm thinking of doing something fun here...I'll let you know.

Ok, so back to the containers. I just loved this sweet little vase and thought my pearly pins look gorgeous in it.

I love old boxes of all kinds, they are great for holding all sorts of items. Even the little ones are great for holding paper clips, or little embellishments. I love the detail that went into packaging. The box with the roses on it, it's a chocolate box. The other 2 are powder boxes.

For me, it helps to have pretty containers and organization. It inspires me. Makes me want to keep things organized. (makes me want to, doesn't make it happen!)

Here's a couple of shots of my containers in action. I'm working hard on my studio and I'm almost ready to show you the whole thing.

 

More satin boxes and basket purses. If I see these for a good price and in good shape, I almost always pick them up. They are great for holding so many things!

I think I shown you my jewelry boxes when we did "bling week", but really these old jewelry boxes are great for holding lots of small embellishments! I have one with small paper in it. They would also be great for all the small embellishments that you need for scrapbooking, jewelry making, etc!

This one is my favorite. My Momma bought it for me at Christmas, and it's huge! There are three drawers in addition to the top two trays!

I also use all sorts of vintage tins and jars too, but I'll save those for another time!
