November's Little Pink Box, and a couple new things

Hello! How is your holiday season going so far? For me, it's going by way too fast and I feel like I am behind on mostly everything. Remind me next year to start all of my preparations much earlier, would you? I love this season so much, and wish it could last a little longer. I want to enjoy the lights, drink chai tea and hot cocoa, make pretty things, decorate my home, bake cookies, and all of those things that make this season so magical. I just need time to slow down just a bit. 

The little winter scene ornament above was one of the 2 projects we created with the November Little Pink Box. It's a tiny glass dome with a sweet little scene inside created with a glass glittered deer and a white Christmas tree. There's also teeny vintage pink pearl ornaments decorating the tree. 

I love how this turned out, and am hoping to have time to make a few more with different things inside. 

We also made these super sweet vintage angel tree toppers. I designed and created this topper using ALL vintage materials. The body is a vintage paper thread cone, the angel head is vintage, her dress and wings are made of vintage lace, and even her little pink topper thing is made from a vintage felted sweater. I love it when I can make something using all vintage materials, don't you? I'll show you how she looks on my studio tree as soon as I get it decorated. Ha. Speaking of my studio, I still need to blog the studio redo. Hopefully I will get to that later this week. 

How sweet is that face? I actually had one extra kit for this topper and have listed it in the shop. :)

I have also added a couple other kits to the shop this evening. First is this petite holiday book kit. It's made with vintage red leather covers, and comes with 2 petite collage sheets, vintage lace and trims, and vintage ephemera. It's perfect for creating a special little mixed media memory book. 

This kit comes packaged in a clear stationery box. 

Something else I am super excited about are these vintage ephemera stockings. This summer I found a lot of these vintage old stock mesh stockings that were used to hold toys and trinkets for children in the 1950's. I couldn't wait to do something with them for my shop. So, I filled them with all sorts of vintage ephemera. There's vintage tags, Christmas seals, cards, postcards, milk caps, and more! They're all a little different, and would make a perfect gift for your crafty friends. (or yourself!)

Vintage style December daily journal kits

Hello! I hope your weekend was lovely! The first part of our holiday shop update is now live in the shop, you can see all items right here.  I wanted to share with you this years vintage December daily journal kits I have put together for you. I do plan to have more, but these are the ones I have finished, ready to ship, and in the shop right now. The first is a gorgues kit that I have covered in one of my favorite vintage wallpapers. Both covers have this wallpaper and the inside covers have pockets for extra memorabilia. Just like your kits from last year, the covers are pre punched and all of the cardstock pages have been cut to size and punched for you. How easy does that make it to put your kits toghether?! The kits are filled with vintage and new papers, embellishments, wrapping paper, vintage ephemera, vintage tags, trims, fabric, etc. You can see a full lsiting of the contents in the listings in the shop. I am not sure if you can tell, but this wallpaper is pink roses with gold outline. The leaves are and detailing is gold, I'm just not sure it shows here. So this kit is primarily pink, ivory, and gold. You know, my favorite colors! Here's a look at what else is in the kits. 

It's really impossible to show you all of the details of these kits, but if you've ever bought a kit from me, you know they're always generous, and full of lovely things, more than you would need to complete your project. (oh, and the holes are punched in this kit, they just weren't when I took the photos) And as a surprise this year, all of my book kits will come with a super sweet Little Pink Studio book bag! 

This next book kit was really hard for me to list. How wonderful is that cover? The sweet illustration and title are imprinted into the cover. The kit contains the same types of items, but with a more muted, neutral colors. There are hints of pink and gold, and even a tiny bit of green, but the overall colors are nuetral. Some original book pages and illustrations are inclued. 

 

And I was lucky enough to find some more of the darling book covers I used last year that sold so quickly. 

I have a couple of those kits available as well as the same book kit but with a different cover than I have seen before. 

The book, the kit, and the pages are all the same, just a unique cover. Isn't is the sweetest? 

Like I said, I do plan to have more book kits ready soon, and I actually have a few more kits I want to get finished and listed. So I will be adding more soon.

A 2nd peek at the holiday shop update

Hello! I'm popping in to share another kit that will be available on Monday with the frist part of our hoilday shop update. This kit is one of my favorites! A few years ago I made a similar kit with little scenes on top of vintage Christmas tree clips. You know, the kind of clip that was originally meant to hold candles on a tree? This is the same concept, just totally different little scenes. 

I used the vintge clips imported from Germany again, and I built sweet three dimensional scenes on each clip. The project makes 5 ornaments! Each scene is nesteld into "snow". (mica flakes, included in each kit)

I love how this little gal is perched on the edge of the clip as if she is sitting in front of the Christmas tree. 

Aren't they sweet? I loved making this kit! Everything you need will be included except some glitter glue. But each kit contains 5 vintage tree clips, cotton mica flakes to create your "snowy" scenes, the printed images, tiny pink vintage pearls and rose cabs for embellishing, white sisal trees,  and instructions on how to create each ornament. It will be adorably packaged in a clear top craft box.

Are you wondering where the heck my holiday shop update is?

Well, hello there! I'm sorry to disappear like that. But the truth is I have been working around the clock getting my holiday shop update ready. Turns out I had more ideas than time this year. But, I will have lots of new, fun stuff in the shop on Monday morning. I will more than likely continue to add things since, as I said I have lots of ideas, and also, we have plenty of time before Christmas still. I thought I would show you a few peeks today and will pop in over the weekend to share more. The above little winter wonderland scence might seem familiar to you. That's because it was a Little Pink Box project last year, but I liked it so much I decided to bring it into the shop this year. So that is one of several new kits that will be a part of the holiday shop update. 

In addition to several vintage December daily kits that I will show you later, I also made several holiday themed deluxe hankie kits. They have a sweet hankie journal kit along with vintage fabric, trims, buttons, millinery, and vintage ephemera too. I've included vintage wallpaper, vintage wrapping paper, calendar pages from the 1940's, vintage holiday tags, etc. Plenty of materials to make a super cute little memory book or journal. 

And once again I am bringing back my collage angel kit. She is just so near and dear to my heart as she was the very first kit Isold 8 years ago this month! I can't believe I have been running this crafty little business of mine since 2006! I feel so blessed to get to do what I do, and of course I couldn't do that, if you all didn't love what I do and buy my kits and supplies! I'm going to be running some promotions, doing some giveaways, free gifts, and more starting next week, to show you how much I appreciate you all so you'll want to stay tuned!

But back to my sweet collage angel ornaments, I made a new example this year from the same kit. The kit actually has the materials to make 3 angels, but has enough vintage wallpaper and other papers that you could make a ton of ornaments! It's like a vintage wallpaper pack combined with an ornament kit. 

I made this one by layering vintage wallpaer with a pretty rose print wax paper (included in the kits) and covering the body with mica flakes. (also included in the kits!) The wings were made by layering more vintage wallpaper. 

That's just a tiny peek into this year's kit. Everything is packaged in a sweet luxe blush envelope.

I'm curious, what is your favorite color palette for this years holiday season? For me I seem to be drawn to the pale pink and gold. But also surprisinly, I'm kind of liking some vintage black and white Christmas items. In fact, I plan to have the same December daily kits I had last year, but also some different color themes as well. (some of which will just be "one of" kits)

I'll share those later, but I can let you know that this kit will make a return, along with some varying materials.

A peek into the October Little Pink Box

Hello! I wanted to pop in today and share a peek into the October Little Pink Box. October's box is when I like to do autumn inspired projects or colors. So, this box had lots of cream, peach, and gold in it. You may remember the snippet roll swap I participated in a few weeks ago? Well I was so smitten with making those that I wanted to share that with my subscribers last month. So we made "autumn sweethearts" snippet rolls! 

Here's the creative kit for the snippet rolls. I provided all of the materials (plus lots of extras!) for subscribers to make a sweet snippet roll of their own. This is the kind of project that's perfect to work on while sitting in front of a fire on a chilly fall evening with one of your favorite movies on. It's just a relaxing, no stress, and fun project.

In addition to all of the vintage lace, millinery, embellishments, etc included in the kit, we also had some pretty trims this month. 

That pretty white trim at the top and the gold sequin trim at the bottom are both vintage. And of course so is the vintage bird card. 

Inspired by the gorgeous vintage doily dreamcatchers I have been seeing all over the internet, I came up with my own version for our 2nd creative kit. I love the vintage doily on the gold hoop! They're actually a quick and fun project to make, and I love the shabby chic style of them. 

These kits included all of the materials needed including the muslin fabric, the vintage doily, gold hoops, and feathers. 

If you love the kits in this months box, I did have the materials to make a couple extras and they're listed in the shop now. 

In other news, I did get my studio finally finished a couple of weeks ago, and I'll blog about that in a couple of days. I'm also busy working away on kits for the Christmas season. They will start trickling in to the shop very soon. I have several kits lined up for this year, including some past favorites. I will also have my popular vintage December daily book kits available again this year. I'm working on those too. I'll post updates here , and you can alwasy follow along on instagram where I try to post most days. 

Oh, and both the November and December Little Pink Boxes are on sale now. I went ahead and opened up subscriptions for December early so that you could purchase them as a gift for your favorite crafter if you wish. (or to put on your own wish list!) December boxes will arrive in time for Christmas.

Witchy Women, a new mixed media art book kit!

Hello! We just returned from spending several days in the beautiful smoky mountains of North Carolina camping and celebrating my daughter's birthday. It was such a wonderful time of relaxing, antiquing, taking in the beautiful surroundings, eating great food, and a couple of "art days" with my daughter. I loved every minute of it!  She worked on sculpture and the fantastic art dolls she creates, while I worked away on this mixed media art book I have had in my mind for quite some time. 

 It was great to have the time to sit and bring it to life this book that has been brewing around in my mind for so long. The idea was to create a tattered and worn "scrapbook" of a group of witchy women through the generations. A sisterhood of sorts. I found myself making up their stories as I was creating the book, so I included a page in the front filled with tags where their stories could be told. 

Of course there is also a bit of millinery tucked in that was probably left over from spells done in days gone by. 

The scrapbook starts with the founder and co-founding sisters of the group, and carries on through the decades to the newer, more glamorous witches, to the youngest members, and even those that were arrested for the participation in the goings on of witches. (I used prints of authentic victorian era mug shots for this part!)

Stories can be told of Henrieta and Helga, the blind and albino sisters that were abandonded on the doorstep and raised by the sisterhood. 

The beautiful Jaelle that used glitter in every spell she ever created, but accidently cast and irreversible  spell to grow her hair long and beautiful and ended up with hair that drug the ground behind her for all of her life. 

The book was created with a mixture of beautifully textured fabric, new, vintage, and antique lace, canvas, embellishments, and more. The kit not only includes all of these beautiful items, but also contains several collage sheets of images used and printed on both fabric and cardstock. I've even included all sorts of fictional witch names so you can create and tell your own your story. 

When finished it's quite a thick book containing all sorts of beautiful elements and textures. There are 16 front and back pages plus the covers, and all of these photos are just a little peek into this fabulous book. I loved putting it together and bet you will too. 

Kits are for sale right here, and I will also be offering a tutorial only option in a day or so. This was a very fun book to put together, and is perfect for a Halloween weekend project. Instructions are included with the kits, but you can certainly put this together your way, and tell their story however you would like.

Something a little different....

Happy Monday! First, since you are not seeing photos of my studio in this blog post, you would be right to assume I did NOT get it finished. Ugh. I started rearranging furniture, got frustrated and walked away. Still. Not. Finished.  I'm going to be working on it this week, though. So whenever I have some photos to share of something that is not a total mess, I'll be sharing them. I'm going to get this done. Really, I am. 

So, what you are seeing here today is something I made a couple of months ago. I had a craft day with my youngest daughter, that loves to create things with old dolls, and after many hours, this is what I came up with. She's a shabby, raggedy, butterfly doll. 

Years ago, I made soft dolls, and they were nothing like this little cutie. However, as you probably know, I still have an affinity for dolls. This little gal started out as a vintage knickerbocker doll with no arms. (and she was naked) I didn't really have any idea exactly where I was going wiht her, so I just started playing. 

I would say I was definitely inspired by Joanna Pierotti. I adore her dolls, especially the bunny dolls she creates. I love the tattered, whimsical style she creates with her dolls, and that is something I was going for. (speaking of Joanna's bunny dolls, one of these days I am hoping to be fast enough to be able to purchase one of those!) Anyway, once I got started she mostly came easily. 

Except for her hair! That hair was a LOT of trial and error, and taking it apart and starting over, and took me forever. Definitely the longest process of creating this doll was her hair. But I wanted her to have this wild hair with little antenna like things sticking out, and eventually I was happy with how it turned out. 

Her body has all sorts of layers of paint and a little glitter, her skirt was made from tea dyed cheese cloth and scraps of lace. Her arms are borrowed from another, and her wings were created with a butterly wing shaped christmas ornament. They're covered in bits of old lace and paints as well. 

I am thinking of making some more dolls like this, especially after I was able to master that hair, but I think this little gal is going to go live with my own baby girl that will be 21 years old tomorrow. Sheesh. When did that happen?

Vintage darlings swap: Part 2

Hello! Yesterday I shared with you the snippet roll I received from the vintage darlings swap, and today I wanted to share what I made for Laurie. The above photo shows my snippet roll rolled up on the spool. 

And here's a not so great photo of it hanging up. For this swap, we were supposed to make our snippet rolls 18" long and about 2" wide. I used a vintage spool that was a bit wider, so my roll is closers to 3.5" wide. 

Being 18" long, photographing the whole thing is a bit hard, so I'll share it with you by sections. I used a strip of vintage wool blanket binding as my backing, then added vintage lace all along the front. This lace ended up being mostly covered up as I added more vintage lace and the photos and embellishments. 

Confession: I mostly glued my snippet roll together. There is actually very little hand stitching done on it. For me, it was just easier to put it together this way. 

The "L" is a vintage initial tag. Not sure what the original use for them was, but I have a few of them. They're dark brown, and I felt that the brown stood out too much so I covered it with a bit of vintage dotted swiss. I stitched that on after the glue was dry. :) Love the little pink velvet flowers. What is it about vintage velvet? I adore most everything made with vintage velvet. 

I love the photo of this little girl, it's one of my favorites. The satin buttons and bit of lace under them are part of a vintage wedding dress. I hoard those, and only have a little bit left. More vintage millinery, several different types of vintage and antique lace, and a sweet vintage bird. 

More vintage laces, a bit of ruffled dotted swiss, and that super sweet tatting. 

I covered the top photo with more of the vintage dotted swiss, just to add a bit of texture. The sweetheart finding is one from my shop, and I loved that sweet lavender brad and bit of crocheted applique. 

A bit more vintage millinery and more vintage laces and that is it. For my photos, I just made a collage of the images I wanted to use, and printed them on muslin, just like I do my collage sheets.  I love the way the photos look printed on muslin, I feel like it lends to the vintage feel of the photos. 

I also sent Laurie a vintage flash card I had stamped with my favorite vintage rubber stamp. I hope she loved the snippet roll I created for her.

A peek into the August Little Pink Box and extras!

Hello! I hope you're having a lovely week! I've been busy here reorganizing and rearranging my studio, prepping for Halloween and the upcoming holidays and shows I'm going to be participating in. (more on that later)  I wanted to pop in and share The August Little Pink Box with you. Since August is pretty much the end of summer and back to school time around the country, I wanted to theme the month around school supplies. My thoughts were to take some ordinary school supplies meant for children and and turn them into something beautiful and useful to my subscribers. From time to time I forgo the standard pink box and send the contents in something else. This month was the tote bag (school bag) above. The bags were hand dyed by me, and I also created the fabric labels for each bag. 

Inside the bag were kits to create both an altered compostion book and an altered supply box. 

We altered standard supply boxes with vintage sheet music, old ribbon, hand dyed seam binding, vintage millinery, and a beautiful image printed on a ledger sheet taken from a late 1800's ledger. I thought these boxe would be perfect for holding supplies in the studio, or using in conjunction with the art journals to hold on the go journal supplies. 

We even added a little pocket made from vintage lace on the inside of the boxes. 

Our art journals were created using your standard composition book used by students. We covered the inside and back covers with antique ledger papers. The front cover was created using a beautifully reproduced script printed on muslin, a digital collage personalized for each subscriber with their first intial. (these were also printed on muslin fabric) We further embellished our journals with pretty labels and vintage ribbon and lace. 

How would we go back to school with out mini chalkboards and pink chalk? 

And I could not resist sending along a not so typical set of alphabet fridge magnets. Of course, they had to be painted gold and packaged in a hand dyed muslin bag. 

I loved this back to school theme and including your typical school supplies turned gorgoues supplies for us.

A peek into the July Little Pink Box

Hello! I hope you're having a lovely week! I still have plenty to share with you from our adventures with the Hwy 127 sale, but I wanted to take a moment and give you a little peek into last month's Little Pink Box. 

This was one of those months that I opted for something other than our standard pink box, and sent these sweet little picnic baskets instead. The theme was of course, summer picnic. 

Among the items included was a vintage fabric pack that reminded me of both vintage tablecloths and napkins. They were packaged with a sweet little velvet strawberry and contained in a petite berry basket. 

There was also this sweet set of authentic vintage napkins. 

The creative kit for the month was a recipe/memory book made from lunch bags, and of course packaged in a wax sandwhich bag. 

And to create our lunch bag recipe books I also included some lovely recipe cards, mason jar cards, vintange photos of ladies picnicing, and several other paper bits. 

Not pictured is the paper straws and sweet little dairy glass jar.

This was such a fun "box" to put together! The August Little Pink Box is on sale for just a couple more days, so grab yours quick. August is going to be another really fun month, with more than one creative kit!
